Now, it is Min Bahadur Sherchan's turn at the age of 77 as the oldest man in the world to climb Mount Everest in order to register his name into the Guinness book of world Records. Super septuagenarian young Sherchan with a great zest and zeal in his heart and mind has already set his life into motion to commence his feat-making mission to climb Mount Everest in the spring (May 10~29) of 2008 from the South Col.Mr. Sherchan is sure to scale on the top of Mount Everest so as to beat the previous world records set by Japan's 71 years 2 months and 2 days old Katsusuke Yanagisawa who
climbed the Mount Everest on May 22, 2007 by beating two world records made by Japan's 70 years 7 months and 13 days old Takao Arayama in 2006 and another 70 years 7 months and 10 days old Japanese YuichiroMiura on May 22, 2003.
Born in 1931-06-20, Mr. Sherchan who hails from Bhurung Tatopani Village Development Committee-9 of Myagdi District in Western Development Region in Nepal has a series of good records of adventurous journeys as well as Mountain climbing. To name a few, he has accomplished 202 kilometers of distance in 4 days on foot from Kathmandu to Pokhara in June, 2003; 1028 kilometers of distance in 20 days from Mechi river in the Eastern border to Mahakali river in the Western border of Nepal in December, 2003; about 190 kilometers of distance with contrast climatic conditions om Nhechung with freezing temperature in the Northern border to Belhia with more than 42 C in the Southern border of Nepal in May, 2004 and an altitude height of 4,700 meters from Tatopani to Khayar Lake in Annapurna region in 2007. Similarly, Mr. Sherchan to his credit has already experienced the successful climbing of Mount Naya-khanga Peak (5844m) in Nepal on Sep.11, 2006. Mr. Sherchan as an ex-army man has a lifelong dream of setting up his feet on the top of the Mt. Everest from his childhood. Righteously, the time arrow is towards him at this moment of the adulthood to materialize his unchanged determination into reality without having the feeling of exhaustion of senility.
